In the spirit of celebrating this monumental anniversary, it is beautiful synchronicity that we received a proposal from three alumni of the program — Joan Grubin, ’03, Patricia Miranda, ’14 and Susan Newbold, ’00 — for a regional alumni exhibition initiative, recently deemed VAAP, or Visual Art Alumni Projects.
The proposal comes as a result of some brainstorming done with the support of the Board of Trustees and its major intent is as follows:
“To create locally grown VCFA artist communities that support each other artistically and create and support opportunities for exposure for all VCFA alumni. Many VCFA alumni work in artist-led spaces, arts institutions, galleries, universities and community institutions around the country and Canada. This is a great source of talent and possibility for our alumni, as well as for community building beyond graduation. Because our alumni are from a wide area of the continent, this plan would incorporate each section of the VCFA alumni community. This would entail a simultaneous exhibition in different regions of the VCFA alumni community; for example: East and west coast, Midwest, southwest, eastern and western Canada. Each exhibition would be locally sourced, organized and curated by and for VCFA alumni, instigated by a small advisory board of Alumni and a VCFA representative.”
The inaugural series of alumni exhibitions begins this fall with the following shows. Please join our alumni at the following venues to celebrate their success and continued relationships and practices forged during their tenure in the MFA in Visual Art program at VCFA.
